Director Threatens To Cut Fingers Off Misbehaving Preschoolers

By August 27, 2018

In an attempt to discipline two young children, Preschool Director Akinnaso, threatened two 4-year-old boys by putting a steak knife into their hands and told them she would cut their fingers off and throw them in the trash if they kept misbehaving.

Akinnaso was permanently "removed" from the preschool at Dawn To Dusk Christian Childcare and Learning Center in Plainfield, New Jersey, USA.

On the same day the charges against Akinnaso were signed by Plainfield police, the Department of Children and Families Office of Licensing inspected the preschool and found numerous violations that have since been addressed, according to state records.

The inspection violation report says the staff member's threat with the knife violated requirements that the facility "ensure the children's health, safety" and "prohibit corporal and/or emotional punishment."

It also said that the centre failed to provide proper training to staff, left a child alone with a worker who did not pass a Child Abuse Record Information background check and needed to fix physical problems at the facility. Follow-up inspections found all the issues were abated, the report said.

The director of Dawn To Dusk Christian Childcare and Learning Center, Adetokunbo O. Akinnaso, is charged with two counts of cruelty or neglect of children, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. The prosecutor's office has agreed to recommend probation at her sentencing Sept. 28.
